New Pattern Release, A thoughtful Review of Saltwhistle Top/Dress

by Love Notions Patterns

Doesn’t the Saltwhistle Pattern look amazing? I’m happy to share my thoughts on this soon-to-be/newly released pattern by Love Notions Pattern.

As the weather heats up and life becomes busy during the summer season, I’m always looking for a “WOW” pattern. When the Saltwhistle application dropped into my inbox, I knew I liked it but honestly wasn’t sure how the peplum would look on me. In the end, I sent through the request and was happy I did. Especially after seeing Keira’s “Islandsewcialist” toile, I was truly sold on the design.

When it comes to sewing, you truly have to take a moment and think of your fabric choice, considering pattern to fabric pairing. Keira’s test was a sort of gauze fabric and I love how it draped. That dress was my muse for this test and I love the overall look.

The ” Saltwhistle”

The Saltwhistle Top and Dress is an amazingly designed peplum top and flirty dress pattern perfect for adding to your Spring and Summer wardrobe. This pattern is designed for woven fabrics and features a stylish square neck design. It features a scalloped hem, which gives a sophisticated and feminine touch.

Sleeve + Other Options

  • Sleeveless
  • Flutter
  • Short Puff
  • 3/4 Bishop
  • Full bust option
  • Designed for Woven Fabric

I tested a size M and sewed the bishop sleeve. After a few changes based on modifications from the pattern test, my dress turned out beautifully. I can’t wait to make another version of this pattern.

I love how every Love Notions Pattern, I test comes together nicely. The LNP team does an amazing job, of keeping everyone on track and making updates based on testers’ recommendations. For your reference, I’m 5’9″, I have a long torso and broad shoulders. Knowing the models’ size and build is very helpful, this will aid you as you choose your size and fabric.

Favorite Detail

The layered scalloped hem is a nice touch to the pattern, it’s a subtle feature that adds a whole lot of beauty.

Styling Saltwhistle

This was a fun dress to style! When putting the outfit together, I drew inspiration from my recent trip to Portugal & Spain. The women over there all dress very polished and feminine, which works well for my style. This is my favorite look to date, my latest handbag (coming in hot from Italy) makes the look. Also, the addition of the belt, and cinching in the dress creates a sophisticated outfit.

I highly recommend this pattern, for its release the sale runs July 19th-25th ($9.50, regular price $12.50)
