The Challenge

This challenge was created by elizabethmadethis, for more info click here. Ultimately you have to sew two dresses. One for the day in any color to reflect your style, the night dress is black and one that could take you to the Oscars (Well as Elizabeth said the opera or a cocktail party) What an amazing honor to be among, a nice selection of talented sewist. I am excited to be part of the blog tour which begins January 8th – January 14th .

Day Look Inspiration – While thinking about this look, I felt overwhelm as I tried to narrow the options down. What really was my style? What colors speak to me? If you are like me, it’s a bigger challenge to choose a pattern. For this project, I decided to go deeper and consider my daily activity and my style (I am still figuring this out).

Day Dress Inspiration

SUNO: A-lined Denim Dress

I love that it looks tailored and have an adjustable straps, the top-stitching is a nice touch and the contrasting buttons. Kwik Sew K3554 can totally by hacked to make this dress.

Moon River: Fluttered & Flounced Dress

The color is just amazing and the rose details is a plus. This is exactly the reasons Antropologie is my favorite site to browse for inspiration. Unique designs always! I love the cape style sleeve, which reminds me of M7541.

My number one pick for the Day Dress is Oscar de la Renta Floral-Motif Mixed Media Dress. This dress has a hefty MSRP of $4,490.00 now $1,571.00.  Another winner is BurdaStyle 9/2014 130 click here to go to the website.

I hope to somehow miraculously hack this pattern to reflect the design of the Oscar de la Renta dress.

Night Dress? Yes Please!

Wow! after #thelittleredressproject, I am excited to make another special occasion dress. Now, I’ve tried to tame myself and pick a simple dress. I can truly be indecisive sometimes when it comes to choosing a pattern and of-course today is no different. Seriously, this is the worst part of sewing for me. Take a good look, can you see the choices I have to deal with 🙂

Nicola Finetti – V1490: When I think evening, I don’t usually think knee length. However, I love the asymmetrical skirt of this dress. It would make a splendid dress and I have high hopes of making this one. Click here for website

Tom & Linda Platt – V1474: This floor length gown is luscious and it would be beautiful in black and lace. Click here for website.

BurdaStyle Hourglass Gown 11/2014 #121: Every thing about this dress, says Make me. The lace inserts are genius and really pull the look together. It’s a master piece and I would love to make it. Yet with the requirements of the Day and Night challenge, the lace would be the reason I would pass on it. Because I can’t add white for the lace to overlay, the dramatic affect would be lost without it. Click here for website

BurdaStyle Cut-Out-Back 11/2014 #119: I love this dress and it’s my number one pic, so I should get working on it right away. I have to say, I’m nervous about working with boning. I won’t let that hold me back. I must say if it becomes a major hurdle I may switch to one of my listed inspirations. Click here for website

Hopeful my selection for this project gives insight into my style. Gosh that Oscar De La Renta dress gives me life and the impressive BurdaStyle Cut-Out dress will be amazing.  I love the final picks and hope drafting and sewing goes smoothly. I look forward to sharing my completed dresses on Friday, January 13th 2017.
